Underground car park beneath Courtyard 3 at Alte Weberei Lustnau, Tübingen
A new urban neighbourhood has been developed in the Lustnau district of Tübingen. Around 700 people have found new homes at the former weaving mill, and approximately 100 jobs have been created. The neighbourhood occupies the roughly six-hectare site of the former Egeria terry cloth weaving mill. Six courtyards surround a central square, where the old Egeria building has been preserved.
Smart parking
Parking also required a smart solution. Beneath Courtyard 3, a multi-storey building with residential and commercial spaces, an underground car park provides 49 parking spaces. Protecting the floor is particularly important in an underground car park. The surface is subject to thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses, including exposure to fuels, de-icing salt and temperature fluctuations.
Durable and cost-effective – slip-resistant Arturo OS8 floor coating
Gesellschaft für Wohnungs- und Gewerbebau Tübingen mbH selected a particularly durable and cost-effective Arturo solution. The 2.5 mm thick, wear-resistant and slip-resistant OS8 floor coating was applied to a 40 cm thick watertight concrete slab.
Flooring contractor Malerbetrieb Hans-Peter Hoch first applied Arturo EP6955 Primer OS8, mixed with 0.3–0.8 mm kiln-dried quartz sand, then broadcast the surface with kiln-dried quartz sand of the same grain size. Arturo EP3900 was then applied as the finishing coat. Coved skirtings were formed around the edges using Arturo EP1500 repair mortar. This provides lasting protection and ensures a long service life. Arturo’s extensive colour palette was used to create clear, simple markings to guide drivers through the underground car park.
Architectural design with colour accents
The underground car park was designed by the Tübingen architectural team Rebmann Rettenmeier and Garcia Elzel. “It was important to the client to create a bright, modern and open atmosphere,” says architect Günter Rettenmeier. This was achieved through large round porthole windows and contrasts between white partition walls, grey floor surfaces and green markings. Even the traffic lanes and pedestrian crossings feature a bright green finish. The clear layout allows visitors and users to find their way quickly.
